Hello Buffalo Club Nation! If you have never found your way to Shellie Natho's blog "alone in the woods with scissors," please take a peek and explore her impressive poetry. When she is not having her work published in collegiate literary journals or writing band biographies for local musicians she is creating great works of art on her blog. One such poem "Go on, Get Buffaloed," especially caught our attention! As a loyal member of the Buffalo Club Nation we feel it only right to spread the word about Shellie's blog because after all, every one of us knows the feeling of victory when you,"watch in pride as he chugs his shame." Go on, Get Buffaloed
We challenge the world each night, as we raise our glasses to drink partaking in a game left to fault, by simply choosing what is “right” only to lose by way of such mistake. So, we bellow loud our “BUFFALO” cry when a member of the herd breaks stride, steals a drink with his dominant hand but watch in pride as he chugs his shame then buys another round to rejoin the game. Dont' forget to follow Shellie on Twitter @bomb_Shel Our friend and fellow Buffalo Club member Josh Agate, Staff Writer over at Beer Universe, (www.beer-universe.com) has compiled a list of buffalo worthy beers that the Buffalo Club Nation should all try. Josh knows his craft beer so if he suggests a brew, you can bet your ass it will be worth trying! If you have tried any of these beers please let us know what you think of them. Make sure to follow Josh on Twitter, @JAGateLIFE. Enjoy! Buffalo are majestic animals. Beer is a majestic beverage. A number of brewers have paid homage to this gentle beast and I wanted to take a moment to recognize 10 of the brews that I consider most buffalo worthy.
Black Buffalo – Mikkeller The insanity continues at this Belgian brewery with this 17.5% Imperial Stout. Mikkeller is known for extending the boundaries of brewing sensibility with outrageous ingredients and unlikely pairings. This monster of a brew gets an added boost by aging in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. Prairie Moon – Lake Louie Brewing No better place for a buffalo to lay rest than under a prairie moon. Brewmaster Tom Porter says the schedule for making this light refreshing Belgian Witbier begins as soon as he cuts his own yard for the first time each year. Maybe if Tom had a pet buffalo he wouldn’t be mowing as much. Aviator Red – Flying Bison Brewing Company The American Buffalo has a scientific name of Bison bison and this brewery in Buffalo, NY puts it in their name. This malty brew claims the title of Buffalo’s favorite red ale. Buffalo Belgian Stout - Brouwerij Van Den Bossche The story behind this beer dates back to 1907, when Buffalo Bill’s circus was in this Belgian town. The brewery workers arranged for a young apprentice to watch over the brew kettles. He did, but he forgot to stir and Buffalo was born. Alimony Ale – Buffalo Bill’s Brewery Speaking of Buffalo Bill, this California brewery named themselves after this showman. This IPA has an impressive 80 IBU for the hopheads out there. Zonker Stout – Snake River Brewery Since the state animal of Wyoming is the bison, I thought I would mention one of the state’s best breweries, Snake River. Their foreign style stout has been bringing home awards for over a decade. Buffalo Drool – Buffalo Brewing Company This St. Louis brewpub closes up shop on Sundays in order to focus on brewing. Buffalo Drool is their interpretation of an American Brown Ale. Horn of the Beer – Anderson Valley Brewing Company Buffalos have horns, which they use to determine status and also fight predation. Anderson Valley most likely brews this barleywine for the exact same reasons. Buffalo Hump 1840 IPA – Freetail Brewing Company There are 2 different species of buffalo in the United States and the most distinguishing characteristic between the two is their hump. This brew was named after a Comanche chief that led the Great Raid of 1840 in retaliation for the Texan settlers’ betrayal under a white flag in San Antonio. Buffalo Sweat – Tallgrass Brewing Company I saved my favorite of the bunch for last. This stout has an uncanny smoothness that is a result of using cream sugar. A truly fantastic brew to round out this list of buffalo worthy brews. To my friends at the American Buffalo Club, may the left reign supreme.
